I‘ve been a practising herbalist and a Member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists since 2007, with a first class BSc in Herbal Medicine from UCLAN.
My clinic and dispensary is based in Bristol, where I hold consultations and a student clinic for trainee Medical Herbalists.
After completing my degree I established my first practice in Wells where I worked for 5 years, cutting my teeth with the gracious Somerset folk, some of whom are still my regular patients nearly 20 years later. Due to love, I relocated to Leeds, where I set up a busy Leeds city centre practice and had satellite clinics at The Otley Apothecary and Shipley Breathing Space.
With a dear colleague I ran regular workshops in herbal medicine and created a teaching garden at Leeds University. I’ve always believed that everyone should have the right to access to healthcare, so as part of a collective of complementary health practitioners, I provided free healthcare to asylum seekers and refugees. We also received funding to take on referrals from local GPs of cases that they thought would benefit from complementary medicine.
In 2016 I returned to my native Bristol and after a stint as a resident herbalist at The Urban Fringe Dispensary I set up my practice on the beautiful Harbourside. I carried on my work with refugees and became a director of Herbalists Without Borders Bristol, with whom I worked for 5 years, through the hard times of the pandemic. At the tail end of pandemic I joined Herbalists Without Borders in Calais and Dunkirk and became the Clinical Lead for the first aid team that works in the field in the refugee camps there, undertaking a number of trips.
My main focus now is in training up the next generation of Medical Herbalists and into research and herbal treatment strategies. However, really my greatest joy is being at the herb allotment or doing a consultation or those moments of knowing that I’ve made a difference to someone’s life by being there and understanding their current position and what can shift and how.
